Four Kinds of Abuse

"Child abuse is often described in four categories, although these can overlap in a single child.

The first type of child abuse is physical abuse, and that means a non-accidental physical injury to a child.

Secondly we talk about neglect. Neglect is the failure to provide for a child something that is vital to their safety, health and general well-being.

Third is sexual abuse. Sexual abuse means any sexual act between a child and an adult or a person that’s substantially older, and it involves the misuse of trust or power.

And fourth is emotional abuse. These are actions which significantly harm the child’s emotional status and self-image."
